The Band

E.J. Dieterle

EJ (‘E.J.’) is the bandleader, emcee, plays Accordion (eAccordion) & vocals and is from Germany’s Black Forest.

He grew up singing/singalong in the family, with friends (the soccer-club) and loves to sing and play music especially from Southern Germany and the Alps (Austria, Switzerland, Italy).

EJ’s first musical instrument was the Bariton Horn (Euphonium) with the Musikverein Egenhausen (Black Forest Oom-pah Band).

At Blacky’s Big Band, a German Big Band Orchestra (at the time in the style of James Last’ ‘Happy Polka’) he played also Alto-Sax and Clarinet.

At the SUNRISE Band and also a Black Forest Trio EJ also played additionally bass guitar (lots of local parties and wedding).

1996 and 1997 EJ was invited to perform on the main-stage at the Seoul International Festival (South Korea).

EJ has been at the Oktoberfest in Munich and also the Cannstatter Volksfest in Stuttgart many times.

Chris Rogers

Guitar, Mandolin, Bouzouki and vocals.

Chris comes from an eclectic musical background; his mother was a long-standing member of the Oakland Symphony Chorus, and his father was an accomplished arranger for jazz bands and vocal groups.

With music as a constant backdrop in the house, absorbing all that rhythm, harmony and theory was inevitable.

As a rambunctious youth, Chris played in rock bands that compensated for skill with volume, but maintained a curiosity in diverse musical genres, especially those where stringed instruments were featured.

As a grownup, he has played in jazz, blues, bluegrass, and American folk settings.

Chris sings and plays classic and original blues in the Tamsen Donner Band, and is partner in an Americana folk duo called Ship of Thieves.

Chris joined AlpineSound to further explore his interest in German folk and party music, and, of course, to improve on yodeling.

Tom Belmessieri

Tom began playing trumpet when he was 9 years old and has been involved with music ever since. He has also studied piano and guitar.

Tom grew up with an appreciation for the music of the ’20s, ’30s, & ’40s because his dad was always playing those records, particularly Bing Crosby, the early jazz of Bix Beiderbecke and Paul Whiteman, and the big swing bands.

In high school Tom sang in the music department’s barbershop quartet.

In 1985 he organized a group of musicians to play Dixieland and that was the birth Fog City Stompers. Tom is the bandleader of Fog City Stompers since then.

Mike Hart

Mike Hart, tuba helicon. Mike is a San Francisco native, growing up to the diverse musical sounds of the City.

Church choir, German music (his grandfather was one of the founders of the Deutscher Musikverein), and 1960’s rock and roll filled his early life.

Mike has been playing ragtime music with the Pacific Coast Ragtime Orchestra for over 35 years and legitimate music with the Coastside Community Orchestra.

Since retirement he plays traditional jazz with the Fog City Stompers and the Silicon Gulch Jazz Band, ,as well as also plays with the Deutscher Musikverein.

Mike still wants to be a rock star. (actually, he IS!)
